BAKUN: Dangerous Dams

Betrayal of ordinary people

Thousands of families in Sarawak have been forced from their homes and lands to make way for dams like Bakun, Batang Ai and now Murum.  Worse, the promises of compensation and prosperity made to them by the BN state government of Abdul Taib Mahmud have proved worthless.  The compensation, when it has been paid, has not been enough even to pay for their new homes, leaving most of these people in debt and unable to afford promised water and electricity.  Often the compensation has not even been paid at all!

Meanwhile, cronies of Taib Mahmud have plundered the timber from the vast areas of Sarawak’s unique rainforests, which have been destroyed to make way for the dams.  None of this profit has been returned to the indigenous people who rightfully owned the land.

Mati Hidup Semula

103 hari sudah berlalu;

Jarak masa itu terlalu panjang. Apatah lagi membiarkan blog dalam kondisi terabai bukanlah sesuatu yang menyenangkan. Bahkan, dia sendiri kurang selesa dengan situasi begini. Tetapi, semua ini bukan perkara yang direncanakan. Tiada konspirasi. Pasang surut kehidupan ini memang diluar jangkaan kita.

Mati ilham
Mati jiwa
Mati akal
Mati cinta
Mati kecekalan
Mati kata
Mati…

Setelah 103 hari selepas segalanya mati. Tanggal ini dia memulakan semula apa yang telah mati. Melunaskan perjuangannya sendiri waima inputnya hanya sehala.

Terima kasih kepada bala saldadu cinta yang tidak jemu memberikan sokongan. Terima kasih kepada Empunya Langit dan Bumi yang acapkali memberikan dugaan ini kepada dirinya.

Saya terima segala musibah ini dengan hati terbuka kerana hidup berani untuk gagal!

Moga Kau kurniakan diriku nikmat yang lebih baik.

1. Hijrah adalah revolusi sejarah yang sangat penting

Dengan nada pendek tapi tegas, ahli sejarah Inggeris yang ternama dalam abad ke-20 ini, Arnold Toynbee menulis dalam bukunya “An historian’s approach to Religion“, di antaranya:

His hijrah was not only the geographical migration but was also at the same time the counter-transfiguration of a prophet without honour in his own country into the successful president, by invitation of a rival oasis-state.

Bernard Lewis dalam bukunya, “The Arabs in History” dengan menggunakan istilah Hijra menerangkan bahawa:

The Hijra was a turning point and was rightly adopted by later generations as the starting point and was rightly adopted by later generations as the starting point of the Muslim calender. [1]

Selanjutnya beliau juga turut menulis,

The Hijra was preceded by long negotiations and finally took place in the year A.D 622 – the first certain date in Islamic history. It marks the turning point in the career of Muhammad and a revolution in Islam.

In Mecca Muhammad was private citizen, in Medina the chief magistrate of a community.

In Mecca, he had had to limit himself to more or less passive opposition to the existing order, in Medina he governed.

In Mecca, he had preached Islam, in Medina he was able to practice.

The change necessarily affected the character, activities and doctrines of Muhammad and of Islam itself, the records pass from legend to history.

D.G Hogarth dalam bukunya “Arabia” pula mengatakan:

By adopting (half a generation later) this Hijra or Flight for its Era, and neglecting the dates of either its founder’s birth or his first entry upon his apostolic mission, Islam signified that for its purpose, temporal power is essential to spiritual and means to the former are means to the latter. At Yathrib Islam was to become what the world has recognized it to be ever since – a combatant polity, wieldind the word of Allah upon earth. [2]
